Bag of Tricks

BAG OF TRICKS

A recent patient of mine decided to bring along to his consultation with me all the remedies he has been administering over the past few months for his knee pain. He emptied his bag of tricks onto my desk:

  • a laser treatment device,
  • Hot Ice muscle and joint gel,
  • Voltaren gel and
  • Flexiseq gel.

He has tried all of these, but to no avail.

His symptoms and examination lead me to the diagnosis of a medial meniscus tear. Unfortunately none of these remedies will do the trick with a torn meniscus. It unfortunately does not have a healing potential. The only permanent solution for a symptomatic meniscus tear is a minor operation we call an arthroscopy. He will soon be on one of my theatre lists for an arthroscopy to address the torn meniscus.

This episode has also prompted me to complete my literature review on Flexiseq and I will soon add my summary thereof to this blog. Watch this space….
