Osteotomy May Sound Like A Scary Word, But…

The tibia (shin bone) is carefully cut and the leg is realigned and fixed with a plate. This sounds very scary indeed and as with any operation there are possible complications. A successful HTO can protect the knee for many years from further progressive wear. Here is a beautiful video of Mr Emile Kotze and his bride, Dr Ilse Joubert, dancing at their wedding 10 weeks after he underwent a left HTO.
