Post-operative
It is very important to understand that your bone must heal in the area where the bone wedge was inserted or removed. The bone will take at least 6 weeks to fuse and sometimes it may take up to 12 weeks. During this period of healing it is very important that you should protect your leg.
You must use your crutches and can toe-touch, but not weight-bear on the operated leg. Do not drive at all for the first 4 to 6 weeks and do not move around too much. Before your discharge from the hospital the physiotherapist will show you how to walk and protect your leg.
Your follow-up consultation will be approximately 2 weeks after the operation. We will take X-rays of your leg only at your 6 week follow-up. If the fusion is satisfactory, we will allow you to carry progressively more weight on the leg.
