Two standard incisions approximately 8mm in length are made over the front of the knee. Sometimes additional similar sized incisions are necessary. The internal structures of the knee such as the joint surfaces, menisci and ligaments are all visualised and probed with a small rod where necessary. Once the diagnosis is confirmed certain therapeutic procedures can then be performed (see subsequent procedures). At completion of the surgery the wounds are sutured with a self absorbing suture that is positioned under the skin. In some cases a small drainage pipe is used and this will be removed later in the day before you are discharged.
