DIAGNOSTIC KNEE ARTHROSCOPY

What is a Knee Arthroscopy used for?

A stand-alone knee arthroscopy is used for:

  1. Meniscus surgery (trimming, suture or replacement)
  2. Joint surface surgery (such as chondroplasty, microfracture, osteochondal graft, fixation of osteochondral fractures)
  3. Removal of loose bodies
  4. Synovial biopsy for diagnostic purposes
  5. Synovectomy (where the synovium is removed such as in gout or rheumatoid arthritis)

It is often used in conjunction with other procedures such as (these are discussed elsewhere):

  1. Ligament reconstruction surgery (such as ACL , PCL or MPFL)
  2. Knee alignment correction surgery
  3. During partial knee replacement surgery to assess the other half of the knee
