DIAGNOSTIC KNEE ARTHROSCOPY
What is a Knee Arthroscopy used for?
A stand-alone knee arthroscopy is used for:
- Meniscus surgery (trimming, suture or replacement)
- Joint surface surgery (such as chondroplasty, microfracture, osteochondal graft, fixation of osteochondral fractures)
- Removal of loose bodies
- Synovial biopsy for diagnostic purposes
- Synovectomy (where the synovium is removed such as in gout or rheumatoid arthritis)
It is often used in conjunction with other procedures such as (these are discussed elsewhere):
- Ligament reconstruction surgery (such as ACL , PCL or MPFL)
- Knee alignment correction surgery
- During partial knee replacement surgery to assess the other half of the knee
