PATELLA INSTABILITY SURGERY
Conservative treatment
- Initial immobilization of the knee restricting extension by fitting you with a knee brace. The MPFL is under maximum tension near full straightening of the knee. The aim is therefore to prevent full extension of the knee for 4 weeks to allow the MPFL to heal.
- This is followed by muscle strengthening exercises with the help of a physiotherapist and biokineticist.
- Patella stabilizing braces and/or strapping may be of value to decrease the chance of a redislocation.
