TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT
Patients from far afield
We treat a number of patients from far afield. A few special points in this regard if you are based far away from Stellenbosch in South Africa or in another country:
- Contact KneeDoc telephonically and speak to Janine. She will arrange for me to be able to view your most recent knee X-rays.
- Annelize will arrange for a “tele-medicine” appointment (via WhatsApp video call, Zoom or our in-house platform). If TKR is decided upon then we can offer the following:
- Routine pre-op test to be done at your nearest pathology laboratory 2 weeks prior to consultation.
- Thursday: Consultation with me. At this point a final decision regarding your knee will be made. If a knee replacement is decided upon, we can proceed as follows:
- Friday: appointment with anaesthetist, special long leg X-ray to plan the surgery and pre-admission administration.
- Monday: surgery.
- Wednesday: discharge from Stellenbosch Medi-Clinic
- Stay in a Guest House, Step-down facility or with local friends/family after discharge. During this period, I will be available at all times on my cell phone and, if necessary, I will visit you.
- Follow up in my rooms the following Tuesday.
- You should be fit to return home from the next day (Wednesday, 9 days after the knee replacement operation).
- The remainder of the follow-up can be done via our telemedicine portals.
Please feel free to contact us for recommendations regarding guest houses located near the hospital and shuttle services.
